What do you say to your unemployed friend(s)?

I remember the experience of being laid off and it wasn’t pleasant. Part of that had to do with relationships with others, and how it all felt.  Some friends seem to have all the answers.  Some friends were concerned about “whose fault” it was. Some avoided me.

Ironically, there was one guy who I had known for years, who was employed at the same company, and who was dismissed the same day I was.  We teamed up together and shared quite a bit.  Communication for us was easy, and we began going to various job fairs together, even though our skill sets were quite different.  Eventually, we both got on our feet again, and began new careers.

What would I want people to say to me?  I’m not sure but blogger Richard Skaare has some excellent suggestions in a post entitled Helping your Unemployed Friend. I believe he offers excellent wisdom in the piece and recommend the article to you.
